The house is reached via a short country lane, with fields on either side. It is set within a lawned garden of two acres, with mature trees and hedges to ensure privacy without being isolated. The village boulangerie is a few minutes walk down the secret path and across the bridge – there is never any shortage of volunteers for the ‘croissant walk’ before breakfast. Our village shop caters for everyday essentials, and the bar-restaurant is a popular meeting spot for locals and visitors in summer.
Warm summer days and evenings invite al fresco dining in a house that lends itself easily to an outdoor lifestyle. The pool terrace and BBQ area are the perfect setting for leisurely meals under the stars, ready for fun and relaxation in an instant.
The salon and dining room open on to the pool terrace and balcony where our elevated position encourages gentle summer breezes. Our fully equipped kitchen has all modern conveniences and offers pleasant views over the river valley and cliffs.
The house has accommodation over three floors. Our spacious bedrooms retain their original grace and charm, furnished with antiques and vintage finds, enhanced with lovely fabrics. The bedding, mattresses and linens have been carefully selected to provide superior levels of comfort. Bedroom names pay homage to the unique relationship between France and England throughout several centuries, rich with memories of historical characters and events.
Chambre Crécy is the master bedroom and is a pleasant, light room with double aspect windows. Furniture is in the style of Louis Philippe and includes a 180cm bed, chest of drawers and armoire.
The adjacent shower room is spacious and contains a washbasin, WC, electric towel radiator. It can be accessed directly from the Crécy bedroom and also, if desired, from the corridor.
Chambre Aliénor features double French doors opening to a Juliet balcony at tree-top level, facing north to the river. The room is furnished with a 180cm bed, tall chest of drawers and cherry armoire. A thoroughly charming room.
The enthralling story of Aliénor of Aquitaine is woven into the fabric of this land. A remarkable woman, she was firstly Queen of France, then Queen of England, mother of King Richard the Lionheart and bad King John.
Chambre Talbot offers double aspect windows and is a light room overlooking both the river valley and the pool terrace and garden. Furnishings include a 180cm mahogany bed and a chataigne armoire.
The spacious room also provides a writing desk as well as a shower and washbasin. A separate WC is located in the corridor adjacent. It is the largest and most popular of our guest bedrooms.
Chambre de Valle on the second floor has a 150cm bed and a window facing west towards the limestone cliffs across the river. The ensuite bathroom offers a separate shower, washbasin, toilet and electric towel radiator.
Two further bedrooms on this floor, the Wellesley with en-suite facilities and the single St Aubin, are perfect for children and teenagers who prefer their own space.
